Sources and how to read them

Prevalence: Deloitte Access Economics, Hearing for Life, commissioned by the Hearing Care Industry Association, 2020 — 3.95 million Australians, 15.3% of the population. Hearing-aid uptake: Hearing Care Industry Association. Falls: Lin and Ferrucci, Archives of Internal Medicine, 2012 — among 2,017 US adults aged 40 to 69 (NHANES 2001–2004), a 25 dB hearing loss (normal to mild) was associated with nearly three times the odds of reporting a fall in the past year, and each further 10 dB with 1.4 times the odds, after adjusting for age, sex, race, education, cardiovascular factors and balance function. Self-reported falls; an association, not causation. Cognitive decline: Lin et al., JAMA Internal Medicine, 2013 — among 1,984 community-dwelling older adults followed for six years, those with hearing loss at baseline declined 41% faster on a test of global cognition (3MS, −0.65 vs −0.46 points a year, P = .004) and 32% faster on a test of executive function than those with normal hearing, and the rate tracked the degree of hearing loss. That is the speed of an average score change on screening tests, not a dementia diagnosis. This is an observed association, not causation. Clarion is self-fitted and is not a treatment for dementia, cognitive decline, or any disease. Figures are for hearing loss generally, not for any one product.

The signed Clarion Certificate of Warranty that comes in every box

The guarantee, in writing

Up to four years.
Signed, sealed, in the box.

Every complete set arrives with a signed Certificate of Warranty: your serial numbers, the day it arrived, the day it runs out. A document you can hold, not a line on a web page.

  • A 3- or 4-year warranty. A fault means a brand-new complete set, not a repair. Freight paid both ways.
  • A 90- or 180-day risk-free trial. It starts the day it’s delivered to your door. Full refund, and we pay the return postage.
  • Guaranteed Express Post. Order before 2pm AEST and it leaves North Wollongong the same day. 2–4 business days, guaranteed.

All-week power

A full waking day.
Then a week in your pocket.

About 14 hours on one charge: 7am to 9pm, covered. Put them back in the case and they’re fully charged again in about two hours.

  • About 84 hours in the case. The case carries roughly five more charges before it needs a wall socket.
  • Four lights on the case. They show how much charge is left, at a glance.
  • USB-C, no batteries to buy. The cable is in the box. Nothing to replace, nothing to fiddle with.

The sound engine

Sixteen channels,
not one blunt volume knob.

A cheap amplifier makes everything louder. The Clarity S3 splits sound into sixteen channels and lifts only the ones you’ve lost, so voices come forward and the clatter stays back.

  • AI-assisted processing. It works on sound as it arrives, keeping speech in front and background rumble behind.
  • Feedback suppression. Built in, to keep whistling down.
  • Engineered in the United States. American-designed sound processing, from an Australian-owned brand.
The three FORSOUND app screens of the hearing check: start the check, tap OK at each tone, then Start Self Fitting

Tuned at home

Set to your hearing
in a few minutes, at home.

No appointment: the hearing check is built into the free FORSOUND app. 1. Sit somewhere quiet with the aids in and tap Start hearing check. 2. The app plays a soft tone; tap OK the moment you can hear it. It does this at five pitches for each ear. 3. Tap Start Self Fitting and the app sets all sixteen channels to your result. Done.

  • Already have a hearing report? Skip the check. Tap Import your own audiogram, enter the left and right numbers from your audiologist’s report, then Start Self Fitting.
  • Redo it any time. Not sure you got it right? Run the check again; it only takes a few minutes, and the risk-free trial gives you time to settle the fit.
  • No smartphone? Still fine. They arrive on a working setting, and volume and the five listening settings work on the aids themselves. A family member can do the app part for you in one sitting.

Five settings, two buttons

Five settings.
Two an amplifier can’t do.

General, Indoor and Outdoor for everyday life, plus a dedicated Tinnitus setting and a Music setting that keeps music sounding like music. A voice in the aid tells you which one you’re on.

  • Two buttons you can feel. Tap A for louder, hold it to change setting. Tap B for softer, hold it to switch on or off.
  • Switches itself on. They turn on when they go in your ear and off when they come out, and remember your last setting.
  • Bluetooth. Take phone calls through them, stream audio and connect the television.
A Clarion hearing aid worn behind the ear, with only a thin clear tube showing

Built for real life

Wax happens.
So does the fix.

Older clinic aids use a bare tube; when wax blocks it you wait for an appointment. These use wax guards. Pull the old one out, push a new one in, at your kitchen table, in under a minute.

  • 8 wax guards in the box. Each lasts about six months. When you run out, we post more.
  • 22 ear tips, three styles. Single-layer, open and dual-layer, from XS to XL. Medium comes fitted.
  • Hardly there. The body sits behind the ear in low-sheen Champagne Gold. A thin clear tube is all that shows.

The part nobody explains

Why louder isn't clearer.

The sounds you’ve lost and the sounds you’ve kept need different handling. A volume knob does the same thing to all frequencies. Sixteen channels don’t.

The five reasons

Your granddaughter is the hardest one to hear. Women’s and children’s voices sit higher in pitch. Age-related loss takes the high notes first.

A voice can be loud enough and still make no sense. Vowels are low and loud. Consonants are high and quiet, and they carry the meaning.

Turning the telly up doesn’t fix the mumbling. Volume lifts everything, including what you already hear. The consonants weren’t quiet. They were missing.

One-on-one is fine, a table of six is impossible. Room noise is low-pitched. It lands on the sounds you still hear and buries the high detail you had left.

There was never a day you noticed it start. The highs go slowly, in both ears, over years. You adapt without deciding to.

The honest price

You're not paying for better hardware.
You're paying for the waiting room.

A clinic price carries the consulting room, the reception desk, the fitting appointments and the retail margin. Take those out and the hardware costs what the hardware costs.

$4,000

The low end of the typical clinic range, beside where ours starts.

The offer, plain as day

Here is the whole deal.

The film shows the Signature package. Essential is the same hearing aids for $1,618, with a 90-day trial and a 3-year warranty.

The whole deal, in writing

01

The payment

Paid once. There is no second invoice, and nothing renews.

No subscription, no monthly plan, no fitting fees, no batteries to buy — ever. You buy them, and then you own them.

02

The trial

90 or 180 days at home, counted from the day they arrive.

Not from the day you order, and not from the day we post it — the wait never eats into your trial. If they are not right for you, you get every dollar back and we pay the return postage. Essential: 90 days. Signature: 180 days.

03

The warranty

3 or 4 years. A fault means a brand-new complete set.

Not a repair queue — a new complete set, with the freight paid in both directions. A signed Certificate of Warranty is posted with every order, so your warranty is in writing from the day it arrives. Essential: 3 years. Signature: 4 years.

04

The wait

Free Express Post, Australia-wide. Order before 2pm AEST and it leaves the same day.

Every complete set is held in stock at North Wollongong — nothing is ordered in after you buy. Most addresses see it in 2–4 business days — and that window is a guarantee, not an estimate.

05

The support

Phone and email support after you buy — included.

Stuck on tips, tuning or the app? Call 0485 028 699 or email us and we sort it with you — no appointment, no waiting room, no support fees.

06

The extras

With Signature: a USB-C wall plug in the box, so they charge straight out of the box.

Also with Signature, if you are buying for Mum or Dad: we gift-pack it free, add a handwritten card with your message (leave it in the order note at checkout), and post it straight to their door. Family price lock, on both packages: a second complete set for your partner at the price you paid, any time in the next 18 months — just call or email us.

The Clarion Clarity S3 user manual cover: the gold CLARION wordmark over USER MANUAL on black, with a fine gold line drawing of the open charging case.

The manual

Read it before you buy.

All 28 pages, exactly as they arrive in the box. How to fit them, how to change a wax guard, what every setting does, what the warnings say. No sign-up, no download — it opens right here.

Most companies make you buy first and read later. If something in here would put you off, we would rather you knew now.

The moments worth hearing

Your questions, answered

Answered straight

Will this work for my hearing?

It's intended for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing difficulty. Sixteen channels tuned in the app means it lifts the specific frequencies you've lost rather than making everything louder. If you have sudden loss, pain, discharge, or loss in only one ear, see a doctor first — that needs looking at, not a device.

How can a price from $1,618 match a clinic fitting?

Multi-channel digital processing and app tuning, sold direct instead of through a clinic — so you're not paying for fitting appointments and retail margin. The saving is in the distribution, not in cutting the hardware down.

What if I've never had a hearing test?

You don't need one to start. Take the hearing check in the app, it tunes the aids to what it finds, and it keeps adapting from there. If you do have an audiologist's report, upload it and it tunes straight to your measured loss.

How long does the battery really last?

About 14 hours of hearing on a single charge, and roughly 84 hours in total once you count the recharges the case carries. A full waking day, and about a week of ordinary use between wall sockets.

Can people see them?

They sit behind the ear with a thin clear tube into the canal — very little to see from the front or side. The champagne gold finish is deliberately low-sheen so it doesn't catch the light.

What happens when they block with wax?

You change the wax guard yourself — old one out, new one in, under a minute. Eight are in the box and one lasts about six months. When you run out, email us and we post more. No appointment.

Is it TGA approved?

The hardware carries FCC, CE, UKCA and RoHS conformity marks — those are the independent marks it holds. We don't claim a TGA approval or an ARTG entry. The Therapeutic Goods Administration is Australia's authority for therapeutic goods and the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods is public, so you can check the status of any product yourself.

How long does delivery take?

Australia, yes — order before 2pm AEST and it leaves North Wollongong the same day on Express Post, and most addresses see it in 2–4 business days — that window is our delivery guarantee. Shipping is included and there is nothing further to pay.

New Zealand we can send, but customs charges GST and an import fee on arrival and those are billed to you, not to us. Email us before you order and we will walk you through it.

What colour are they?

Champagne gold — a soft, low-sheen tone chosen to sit quietly against skin and hair rather than catch the light. That is the colour we supply.

What is the difference between the two packages?

The hearing aids are identical: the same Clarion Clarity S3, the same sound, the same box. The difference is how long you can try them and how long they are covered. Essential, $1,618: a 90-day trial and a 3-year warranty. Signature, $2,380.58: a 180-day trial, a 4-year warranty, a USB-C wall plug in the box and free gift-packing. On both, a refund is the full price with the return postage paid, and a fault means a brand-new complete set.

What if I don't get on with them?

Send them back inside your trial — 90 days on the Essential package, 180 days on Signature — counted from the day they arrive, not the day you order. Give them a fair go first: ears genuinely take a couple of weeks to adjust to hearing detail again.

Following the conversation at dinner

With my old pair, I struggled to follow the conversation at dinner. With these, I could follow it. Setting up the app took about twenty minutes, with my son helping over the phone.

Being able to read the manual before ordering was helpful. I could see how the app and controls worked and knew what to expect when they arrived. I like having something I can read through at my own pace, so that gave me more confidence in my decision.
